Obama wins Nobel Peace Prize – did he deserve it?

All kudos go to the President as he was announced as the recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize. The MAIN question being asked by both sides of the aisle is “was the award pre-mature?” Many experts and commentators are saying that this was an “embarrassment” to the Nobel Peace prize committee. This was the third sitting President to ever win the prize. The two before Obama were Theodore Roosevelt in 1906 and Woodrow Wilson in 1919. Mr. Obama is the first sitting President in nearly 90 YEARS to receive it. The Nobel Peace Prize is a very good award to bring home, but nonetheless should it have been given to President Obama? On a personal note I would say ‘no’ – just because he talks about his plans on how he “wants to transform” America to be a peace seeking nation, he hasn’t done anything to achieve his plan other than apologize to other countries much to the chagrin of his constituency. If his plan works, why not give it to him after he has achieved something and not just nine months INTO his presidency.
A professor of History at American University says “[Roosevelt and Wilson] were six or seven years into two-term presidencies, and Obama has not completed a single year of his presidency, so it makes very little sense.”
Another professor from Georgetown University says “It does seem to me, at this point, that its premature,” Wayne said. “When I first saw it, I thought it was a joke. Obama may have been the first to get it for his rhetoric and his orientation.”
So that is what the experts think, so, what do you think?

As someone who voted for Obama, I can honestly say that, while I am happy for him and for our country, I also believe that it was probably premature. I think that he is working toward deserving such an honor, but not quite there yet. So, instead, I hope and pray that this award can be used to help him further the objectives that the award was meant to promote and celebrate.
I appreciate your honest, but kind, words that you left on my blog, as well (http://naclu.wordpress.com/). It is so nice to hear from someone who can get their point across without resorting to the childish behavior I’ve seen from so many others. I admit that my blog is mostly a little on the hateful side, but I started that as a way to vent my frustrations after putting up with family members with whom I completely disagree and can’t scream at.
