Rick seems to be getting stronger
Hurricane Rick quickly regenerated into an “extremely precarious” Category 4 storm off of Mexico’s Pacific coast on Saturday and forecasters say it could hammer the Baja California Peninsula in about five days. The storm itself had sustained winds up to 145 mph and it was assumed to advance into an incredible Category 5 storm with winds exceeding 155 mph, though it said the storm was most likely to lose most of that punch before hitting any land.
Hurricane Rick was centered about 280 miles southwest of Acapulco Saturday morning and it was moving west-northwest near 12 mph. Some forecasters said it was arranged to stay well off the coast for several days before bending east over chilly waters and smashing the Baja California Peninsula by early Thursday as a weakened Category 1 hurricane.
Rick was forecast to advance near Socorro Island, about 300 miles south-southwest of Cabo San Lucas, on Tuesday. The island is a nature reserve with a tiny Mexican Navy post and it hosts scuba diving campaigns in the winter months. If you would like to read more about this story, click here.
