Rush Limbaugh out as a potential NFL owner but who wins?

October 19, 2009 mousesurfer Leave a comment

Whether you like him or hate him, multi-millionaire Rush Limbaugh has been prevented from investing his money as a partial owner of the St. Louis Rams.  Based upon some purported comments made by Rush on an unidentified “blog” many jumped on the band wagon to preclude Rush from spending his money on St. Louis or any NFL team for that matter.  Funny thing was that the purported comments were never verified and couldn’t be located when mainstream media went looking for them making those outlets look just plain silly for reporting on unsubstantiated “news”.

What is of interest, is the fact that many conservatives have had their Wikipedia profile’s tampered with.  You may, or may not know, that Wikipedia has the availability for the general public to change content on the site.  While Wikipedia tries to keep up with all the changes, it is clear that they were either unable to (or unwilling to) verify and change unsubstantiated content concerning certain conservatives.

On Friday it was reported that the alleged content changes came from the same IP number which serves as an internet gateway for a New York Law Firm called Patterson Belknap Webb and Tyler.  This law firm has many interests including promotion of gay/lesbian interests, women interests and attorneys of color.  It has wide and varied practice areas including white collar crime defense, anti-trust, securities, entertainment and media, intellectual property, and sports.  A full viewing of their website can be found at:  http://www.pbwt.com/

It should be noted that while PBWT holds the IP address that serves as the gateway for the questionable postings, the possibility exists that no one at that firm may be responsible for the content.  For instance, a hacker may be using that gateway to spread the information.  The origin of the postings will be something that Rush and the others will need to prove through the legal process should they choose to do so.

In the meantime, is it fair that someone is preempted from realizing their dream whatever it might be, due to some unfounded postings on an internet blog?  What do you think?

Rick seems to be getting stronger

October 17, 2009 mousesurfer Leave a comment

Hurricane Rick quickly regenerated into an “extremely precarious” Category 4 storm off of Mexico’s Pacific coast on Saturday and forecasters say it could hammer the Baja California Peninsula in about five days. The storm itself had sustained winds up to 145 mph and it was assumed to advance into an incredible Category 5 storm with winds exceeding 155 mph, though it said the storm was most likely to lose most of that punch before hitting any land.

Hurricane Rick was centered about 280 miles southwest of Acapulco Saturday morning and it was moving west-northwest near 12 mph. Some forecasters said it was arranged to stay well off the coast for several days before bending east over chilly waters and smashing the Baja California Peninsula by early Thursday as a weakened Category 1 hurricane.

Rick was forecast to advance near Socorro Island, about 300 miles south-southwest of Cabo San Lucas, on Tuesday. The island is a nature reserve with a tiny Mexican Navy post and it hosts scuba diving campaigns in the winter months. If you would like to read more about this story, click here.

What are your opinions on this? How powerful do you think Rick is going to be? How bad will the damage be? We would love to hear your comments, thoughts, opinions, etc.

Missile to the moon

NASA pressed two spacecrafts into the lunar south pole Friday morning in a search for clandestine ice. Instruments affirm that a broad abandoned rocket hull accelerated into the moon at exactly 7:31 a.m., followed 4 minutes later by a probe with some cameras taking pictures of the first crash. But basic pictures show that the moon didn’t give the acknowledgment to the double jabs that NASA awaited. And the public certainly didn’t get the live explosive views they may have looked forward to from the mission called LCROSS,  which is short for Lunar Crater Observation and Sensing Satellite.

Screens got fuzz and no actual pictures of the crash or the six-mile plume of lunar dust that the mission was supposed to kick up for scientists to study. The public, which chased the crashes on the internet and at observatories, seemed pretty confused. Officials from NASA acclaimed loads of information from the probe and telescopes around the world and in orbit. But the crash videos and photos they submitted at a morning news conference were few and showed little more than a fuzzy white flash. The astonishing lack of photos of a plume could be because the plume was at a different angle, hit some slopes or wasn’t high enough to show up. Or the lunar soil could have reduced down and not tossed up as much dust as expected. If you would like to find out more about this interesting story, you can click here.

What are your opinions on this? I have a feeling they will discover some sort of water on the moon pretty soon. Would be interesting if they did.

If you have any opinions on this, please comment on this article. We would love to hear your opinions!

Obama wins Nobel Peace Prize – did he deserve it?

October 10, 2009 mousesurfer 1 comment

Obama Nobel

All kudos go to the President as he was announced as the recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize. The MAIN question being asked by both sides of the aisle is “was the award pre-mature?”  Many experts and commentators are saying that this was an “embarrassment” to the Nobel Peace prize committee.  This was the third sitting President to ever win the prize. The two before Obama were Theodore Roosevelt in 1906 and Woodrow Wilson in 1919. Mr. Obama is the first sitting President in nearly 90 YEARS to receive it. The Nobel Peace Prize is a very good award to bring home, but nonetheless should it have been given to President Obama? On a personal note I would say ‘no’ – just because he talks about his plans on how he “wants to transform” America to be a peace seeking nation, he hasn’t done anything to achieve his plan other than apologize to other countries much to the chagrin of his constituency.  If his plan works, why not give it to him after he has achieved something and not just nine months INTO his presidency.

A professor of History at American University says “[Roosevelt and Wilson] were six or seven years into two-term presidencies, and Obama has not completed a single year of his presidency, so it makes very little sense.”

Another professor from Georgetown University says  “It does seem to me, at this point, that its premature,” Wayne said. “When I first saw it, I thought it was a joke. Obama may have been the first to get it for his rhetoric and his orientation.”

So that is what the experts think, so, what do you think?

Mother Nature Helps Firefighters

It is a good sign for firefighters as the “Sheep Fire”, that burns west of the Interstate 15,  is now getting attacked as firefighters get help from the cold temperatures. The Sheep Fire started at 2 PM Saturday afternoon and quickly spread. By that night it charred a few thousand acres and forced many out of their homes. This fire then turned northwest and currently threatens the famous ski spot, Wrightwood, California. The good sign is that the firefighters are getting the “upper hand” on this blaze which is now 7,500 acres contained at 20%. This fire destroyed 3 homes and has injured at least one firefighter. This brings up a different point…Why are there so many major wildfires in the month of October? Looking back at in history, 2003 and 2007 were the worst fire years so far since 2000 but every year there has been a major fire like this one.

With the Moorpark and this now Sheep Fire this looks like a rough month for Southern California’s people and wildlife.

… and add more hours to a school day and even have schools open on the weekends.  The administration believes that spending more time in school will make our workers of the future on a more even playing field with other countries.  While kids in other countries have more school days, they do not spend more time in school.

Kids in the U.S. spend more hours in school (1,146 instructional hours per year) than do kids in the Asian countries that persistently outscore the U.S. on math and science tests — Singapore (903), Taiwan (1,050), Japan (1,005) and Hong Kong (1,013). That is despite the fact that Taiwan, Japan and Hong Kong have longer school years (190 to 201 days) than does the U.S. (180 days).

Despite these statistics other test models are showing that more time in school can lead to positive outcomes and higher test scores though at a higher cost per student.

A shocking anniversary it would have been

bomber

An immigrant from Afghanistan who was living in Denver was organizing a bombing in New York City on the eighth anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. Najibullah Zazi, who worked as an airport shuttle driver and was the founder of a coffee cart in New York, was charged this week with conspiring to use deadly weapons of mass extermination against the people of America. The federal government says he  had planned to discharge liquid bombs on subways and trains in New York. Prosecutor Tim Neff told a federal judge in Denver Friday that Zazi wanted to absolve an assailment this past Sept. 11. Zazi had been discontinued by officers on Sept. 10 as he arrived in New York, and he abandoned his plans for an attack once he noticed that law enforcement was right on him. Prosecutors said Zazi acquired explosive devices training from Al Qaeda in Pakistan and retreated to the U.S. bent on building a bomb. You can read the rest of this interesting article here.

Discovered: First Rocky Planet outside our Solar System

September 19, 2009 mousesurfer Leave a comment

newplanet

The acceptance of the nature of CoRoT-7b as the very first rocky planet outside our solar system marks a convincing step forward in the search for earth-like exoplanets. The apprehension by CoRoT (Convection ROtation and planetary Transits) and follow-up radial velocity measurements with the High Accuracy Radial Velocity Planet Searcher (HARPS) suggest that this exoplanet, CoRoT-7b, has a very similar density to that of the planets Mercury, Mars, Venus, and Earth making it only the fifth known terrestrial planet in the entire universe. One of the first steps towards finding a habitable exoplanet is to detect terrestrial planets around solar-type stars. Commited programs, using telescopes in outer space and on the ground, have afforted evidence for loads of planets outside of our own solar system. The amount of these are huge, gaseous planets, but in recent years humble, almost earth-mass planets have been ascertained, demonstrating that the discovery of Earth analogues — exoplanets with one Earth mass or even one Earth radius orbiting a solar-type star at a distance of about 1 astronomical unit — is within reach.

9/12/09 – big success for Conservatives

September 15, 2009 mousesurfer Leave a comment

3912447793_233a9c0d38(3)

While Barrack Obama was in Minneapolis, the 9/12/09 movement came along calling for all the people to go to DC and join …”The March On Washington”. Reports have fluctuated on how many people attended, who was there and who was not there. Some newspapers estimated only “thousands” but a report in London stated as much as  “2 million” attended the March on Washington event. The average estimate made is at a few hundred thousand. People came from all over the country to protest at the President’s doorstep. Surprising, all some media covered the March in a fair and balanced manner and some didn’t report the hundreds of thousands in Washington and neglected to mention the numerous the tea parties held elsewhere across the country.

The HUGE question is, will Washington listen? We the people have spoken so will the government listen? As a founding father put it;

“Government, even in its best state, is but a necessary evil; in its worst state, an intolerable one.” Thomas Paine

Barrack Obama as said in his health care bill that “no people will get in front of you and your doctor”. Well I hope he stays true to his word and his promise. After all, actions speak louder than words, Mr. President.

I guess we’ll have to wait and see if these Tea Parties have put any pressure on the administration or not. If you want more information on the 9/12 project? Or future projects? See …
