Moon Exploration – “at a stand still”

September 9, 2009 mousesurfer Leave a comment

1_61_moonA white house panel of NASA space experts are saying that NASA’s plan to get back to the moon and build a permanent outpost -  won’t work out. The HUGE problem is, well, of course the money. It would exceed NASA’s budget of 18 billion dollars by 3 billion dollars which will not fly with the Obama administration. As much as I personally would love to see a permanent outpost on the moon we need to solve the HUGE problems here. These problems include Healthcare reform, cap and trade, and other problems in the world. The panel made a great decision by telling NASA – “no, not until the MAJOR problems are solved here” – this is the right way to go. Five years ago former President George W. Bush laid out a plan to send men back to the moon by 2020, but of course with the recession it would be nearly impossible to reach the funding goal without raising taxes – and we ALL know we don’t want to pay Uncle Sam more taxes.

If the plan doesn’t work out and we don’t have the money to send man back to the moon to build a permanent outpost – than basically this will delay every other future planned event for space exploration. Basically Bush’s plan was this; go to the moon first and then have this as a base for Mars. Once you get to Mars, you might be able to explore beyond but we need to get there first. The report also says and I quote

“If after designing cleverly, building alliances with partners and engaging commercial providers, the nation cannot afford to fund the effort to pursue the goals it would like to embrace, it should accept the disappointment of setting lesser goals.”

NASA will need to think of other ways to raise funding without urging the government to add MORE taxes on the American people. Otherwise NASA will need to wait on their Space Exploration plans.

Station Fire: When will it End?

September 5, 2009 mousesurfer Leave a comment

fore

I know there are a total of 11 wildfires around the state of California, but this article is only going to be based on the Station fire.

Investigators believe a substance found close to the Station fire’s point of origin helped spread the dangerous blaze and it has become a great piece of evidence in the arson probe. The source would not analyze the substance but said it was discovered in some brush off Angeles Crest Highway, within walking distance from the road turnoff that is in the middle of the arson probe. Sources said that investigators are going through a database of arson suspects and fire bugs to search for accessible suspects.

The Station fire has cost more than $37 million to fight and has burned 154,655 acres. It is currently 42% contained and is no longer threatening homes.

Two brave firefighters have lost their lives fighting this great fire and trying to protect about 60 people as the flames advanced near Mt. Gleason. There was a large gathering of more than 1,000 firefighters to honor these fallen comrades for their bravery. There will be a public memorial for the fallen firefighters on September 12th at Dodger Stadium.

The fire continues burning to the west where fewer than a dozen homes remained threatened in a remote area in Pacoima Canyon. Officials said fighting the flames was challenging in an area with big heavy brush and steep slopes. To the east, the fire was moving very slowly through the San Gabriel wilderness and stayed more than five miles from the suburban communities of Sierra Madre and Monrovia, which are not in any danger at this time.

What are your views on the Station fire? Where is it heading? When will it be 100% contained? We would love to hear your comments and opinions. We will be keeping everyone updated on the Station fire by writing a new article on what’s going on.

A huge credit to L.A. Times for the information and photo. Rong-Gong Lin II and Ari B. Bloomekatz for writing the articles where we got the information from.

“I Pledge” political video already being shown in schools.

September 3, 2009 mousesurfer Leave a comment

In anticipation of Barack Obama’s unprecedented address to students on 9/8/09 we have learned that the video “I Pledge” is already being shown in some schools.  The video has a recognizable all star cast.  You need to see this video through to the end where it says “I pledge to serve Barack Obama“.  Now if this isn’t propaganda I don’t know what is.  This should be considering foreshadowing of events to come.  Some schools are already issuing letters of apology for showing this video without parent permission.

UPDATE: Obama Speech – One School District Lets Parents Decide.

September 3, 2009 mousesurfer 2 comments

This just in.  We have received and confirmed the authenticity of the following letter that has been circulated by one School District.  Yes, this District seems to understand the power of parental choice in molding their children’s education when it comes to things like – - political indoctrination.  BIG Kudos to this District who has the guts to let parents choose.  Will your kid’s public School District give you your rightful choice?

Here is the letter.  (We have blacked out the identifiers just in case the White House is watching.)  Maybe you can approach your District using this letter as a sample.

Dear Parents,

President Obama has announced he will deliver a nationally televised address for students on the importance of education this Tuesday, September 8, at __:00 _M. We understand that in his approximately 20-minute address, he will call for shared responsibility and commitment on the part of students, parents, and educators to ensure that every child in every school receives the best education possible.

As a school district, and in the same spirit as the President’s intended message, we have worked hard to build strong home/school partnerships and to challenge all of our students to do their very best so they can pursue a full range of college and career options upon graduation.

We believe the President’s address would be the most beneficial if you choose to view it together at home as a family. We believe any discussion with your child or children around the importance of education and goal-setting could be both meaningful and appropriate. Therefore, we have arranged to provide a link to a copy of the President’s address on the ______________ School District website at www.________________.com (under “_______”) so that if you choose to watch the speech at home, you will have easy access.

As with any significant current events topic, some teachers may choose to include the viewing of the President’s speech as a part of a supplemental classroom learning activity focused upon the importance of education, goal-setting, and college and career awareness. We will not be encouraging teachers to do so, nor requiring that they use any of the suggested learning options from the Department of Education. As with all classroom lessons, we expect our teachers to present all materials in a relevant and meaningful way.

We understand that some families may not wish to have their child watch the President’s speech at school. We are sending guidelines to all teachers indicating that if they plan to include the speech as part of a lesson, they need to inform parents by the end of school this Friday and give parents an opportunity to opt out by notifying the teacher prior to the broadcast on Tuesday morning. Students who have opted out will be assigned supervised alternate learning activities out of the classroom during the 20-minute speech and any immediate follow-up discussion.

If you should have any further questions, I encourage you to speak to your child’s teacher or principal.

Sincerely,
________________________, Superintendent

Obama to address public school children.

September 1, 2009 mousesurfer 25 comments

On September 8, 2009 President Obama, in an unprecedented move, plans to address all public school children via a White House internet address.  The address is scheduled to occur at 1:00 p.m. EST.  This is the first time an American president has spoken directly to the nation’s school children about persisting and succeeding in school. We encourage you to use this historic moment to help your students get focused and begin the school year strong.

In his address the President will challenge students to work hard, set educational goals, and take responsibility for learning. He will also call for a shared responsibility and commitment on the part of students, parents and educators to ensure that every child in every school receives the best education possible so they can compete in the global economy for good jobs and live rewarding and productive lives as American citizens.

In order to advance the topics of the speech a curriculum has been prepared for teachers and students alike.  The curriculum covers Pre-K though Grade 6 and Grades 7 through 12.  The planned topics for discussion can be found here:

Pre-K through Grade 6:  http://www.ed.gov/teachers/how/lessons/prek-6.doc

Grade 7 through 12:  http://www.ed.gov/teachers/how/lessons/7-12.doc

In this unprecedented historical address one would wonder how young is too young for political indoctrination.  After all President Obama has been linked to more than one community organizer who idealizes Marxism and communism, some of whom who have even been appointed Czars by the President himself.  Is this a chance for the President to mold impressionable young minds into the left-wing rationale?  Only time will tell.

H1N1: Should We be Afraid?

August 24, 2009 mousesurfer 3 comments

As the winter months are right around the corner for North America & Europe..should the H1N1 be a thing that we should all be afraid of?  That’s the question.  Here is the situation; depending on how bad this virus is, and if it mutates or not, then we should take more consideration and threat from the virus.  If it’s the same, then the vaccine (yes the government might do mass vaccinations, you should know that) should work.  Scientists are not sure on how the virus will proliferate in the United States, and even the United Kingdom.  For example, Argentina is about to take over the top spot for most deaths in a country, is this a mutated version of H1N1 or the same version and people didn’t get it last time.  The United States are working with Argentina officials and studying what happens and what the government put out there that didn’t work.

http://en.mercopress.com/2009/07/05/argentina-confirms-55-deaths-from-the-ah1n1-virus-flu

This was in July, when 55 have died, but it is now well over 400 deaths.

But, another great point to bring up is, more than 36,000 people die from the flu worldwide each year.  So far since the H1N1 came about back in March 2009 it has killed maybe a little bit over 1,000 people worldwide.  Why are scientists concerned?  Because they don’t know what it might do in the winter months and while it has killed some people, apparently not enough people have died to get others concerned about the matter.

But then again W.H.O. (World Health Organization) predicts an “explosion” in cases.  This is just a prediction.  So really let’s see what happens with the H1N1.  As of now this won’t stop me from going places, but that could change in a heartbeat.

Are you concerned?  Afraid?  Don’t care?  Want to learn more on what the H1N1 virus is doing?  Then about go see the Foxnews interactive H1N1 center.  You can reach is by going here.

Mousesurfer will *try* to bring the latest feeds of news through the blog and through twitter.  We will be sure to bring more news on the H1N1 virus.

Police Used What?!

August 22, 2009 mousesurfer 2 comments

dead

A retired swimsuit model found nude and dead in a suitcase last weekend was identified by the serial number from her breast implants. Investigators were unable to identify 28-year-old Jasmine Fiore using fingerprints or dental records because her body had been damaged, and was missing fingers and teeth.

The authorities now are on a search for reality TV contender Ryan Alexander Jenkins, who was charged Thursday with the bloody murder of Fiore, his ex-wife.

The U.S. Marshals Service is offering a large benefit of up to $25,000 for clues on Jenkins, who may have cut and run to his native Canada. Fiore’s ex-husband has been characterized by the woman’s family and friends as “an animal.”

UPDATE: Police have now confirmed that the accused man was found dead, and are lead to believe he committed suicide. More details and much more are located here.

Bill Upgraded to Hurricane, Claudette Makes Landfall.

August 17, 2009 mousesurfer Leave a comment

Bill became the first hurricane of the 2009 Atlantic season as it continued to buildup power, but remained far from any shore Monday morning.

13_22_081709_Bill

On the other hand, Claudette became the first tropical storm to hit the U.S. mainland this year when it made landfall in the Florida Panhandle early Monday but exhausted as it moved beyond inland. By 8 a.m. ET, Claudette had been decreased to a tropical depression as it advanced over Alabama. Claudette made landfall about 1:15 a.m. close to the eastern end of Santa Rosa Island, a bit southeast of Fort Walton Beach in Florida. It is counted upon to move into southern Alabama on Monday morning and into northeastern Mississippi by Monday night.

There is a chance it could come over to the east coast but projection shows it’s going over Bermuda. But you never know, it could slip over North Carolina so all you east coasters keep an eye out.
